Master Meter's Ron Koch recognized for acumen, generosity by AWWA
Sep 15, 2009 - Ronald N. Koch is the recipient of the 2009 George Anderson Award, conferred by the AWWA Standards Committee on Water Meters to recognize outstanding, long-term contributions to the water metering field.
In the words of his nominator, Ron
* "sets an example for knowledge, commitment and loyalty to the industry.
* "He is one of the key people who helped bring magnetically coupled meters into common usage.
* "His knowledge of the materials and environment and the interaction between the two is unparalleled.
* "He continues pushing the edge of technology with solid-state meters.
* "He repeatedly and consistently takes the time with young people to ensure that his knowledge and experience is understood and available for others coming up within the industry.
* "His tireless dedication to the standards organization should also not go without notice."
Koch holds a BS degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. He spent the first 25 years of his career with Rockwell International Metering Division and has been Master Meter Inc.’s director of business development for 15 years. He holds six US patents.
A Life Member of AWWA, Ron has served on the AWWA Water Meter Standards Committee and its subcommittees, the technical advisory group to ANSI for the ISO and OIML international water meter standards. He has been the AWWA liaison to the American Meter Reading Association.
Koch has also been a member of the ASSE Backflow Preventer Committee, the NSF 61 Task Group 8 and the National Conference of Weights & Measures. He was an instructor for AWWA’s water metering seminars, authored many technical articles on metering, and presented at national and regional AWWA and IWSA conferences.

Ron has exhibited the core values of advancing the science of water meters through design innovation and the training of others in a manner that unselfishly serves the mission of the AWWA and the Water Meters Committee," the award citation reads.
