It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Daniel E. Reed, a cherished member of the Master Meter family and a well-known figure in the waterworks industry. Dan passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the age of 67, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, warmth, and a passion for his work.
A Lifelong Commitment to Excellence
Born in Canandaigua, NY, and raised in the Finger Lakes region, Dan graduated from Baker High School in Baldwinsville, NY, and went on to earn his Bachelor of Engineering from SUNY Canton. He married the love of his life, Pamela L. Geiger, in 1980, and together they shared 44 wonderful years until her passing earlier this month.
Dan’s professional career spanned over two decades, culminating in his role as a Sales Manager at Master Meter, Inc. in Mansfield, TX. His dedication to the waterworks industry was unparalleled. As a veteran with over 20 years of service, Dan’s expertise, unwavering commitment, and vast knowledge left an indelible mark on both his colleagues and the customers he served. He was also an active member of the New York Rural Water Association and the New York American Water Works Association, where he continued to influence and shape the future of the industry.
A Life Well Lived
Beyond his professional life, Dan was known for his deep love of family, his passion for woodworking, and his enjoyment of the simple pleasures in life. He was happiest when spending time on a lake, cruising in his antique Chris Craft boat, or watching his beloved Buffalo Bills—whether they won or not.
Dan was not just a colleague; he was a friend to many, known for his quick wit, selflessness, and gift for storytelling. His ability to brighten a room with his humor and generosity of spirit was truly special, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A Family Man at Heart
Dan is survived by his two daughters, Danielle (Ryan) Smith of Holly Ridge, NC, and Molly Reed (Alex Fletcher) of Weedsport, NY, as well as his two grandchildren, Savannah Smith and Carson Smith, and his granddog, Maxine. He is also survived by his brother, Steven (Deb) Reed of Ft. Myers, FL, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Janis Carnegie, and his parents, Edward and Marion Reed.
As we remember Dan, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. His influence in both his personal and professional life will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Dan will be truly missed by the Master Meter family and all those whose lives he touched.
